Hello everyone, how is the lockdown going?, smoothly I hope, this too shall pass.
Normally, when we Google “what movie should I watch,” it’s either we get a fancy list of intellectual Oscar-nominated films no one has ever heard of or a bunch of “classic” movies from the ’80s that everyone pretends to like, but no one actually does (someone had to say it). This story is not that. Though, I am not a professional movie critic, but I do love movies and I have a lot of strong opinions on them.
So, if you’re looking for some normal-person movie recs to help pass the time while social distancing, check out my personal favorites that you should stream/download ASAP.
Murder Mystery – This movie is about a New York cop and his wife going on a European vacation to reinvigorate the spark in their marriage. However a chance encounter leads to them being framed for the murder of an elderly billionaire.
Dolemite Is My Name – With a 97% rotten tomatoes ratings, you know this movie is the real deal. Performer Rudy Ray Moore develops an outrageous character named Dolemite, who becomes an underground sensation and star of a kung-fu, anti-establisment film that could make or break Moore.
See You Yesterday – Two Brooklyn teenage science prodigies, C.J. Walker and Sebastian Thomas, build makeshift time machines to save C.J.’s brother, Calvin, from being wrongfully killed by a police officer.
Freaks – A bold girl discovers a bizarre, threatening, and mysterious new world beyond her front door after she escapes her father’s protective and paranoid control.
Emma – Following the antics of a young woman, Emma Woodhouse, who lives in Georgian- and Regency-era England and occupies herself with matchmaking – in sometimes misguided, often meddlesome fashion- in the lives of her friends.
Knives Out – In this suspense filled movie, A detective, Benoit Blanc investigates the death of a patriarch of the Thrombey eccentric, combative family.
Spenser Confidential – To unravel a twisted murder conspiracy, a former police detective returns to Boston’s criminal underworld. When two Boston police officers are murdered, ex-cop Spenser teams up with his no-nonsense roommate, Hawk, to take down criminals.
Bloodshot – Based on the bestselling comic book, Ray Garrison, a slain soldier, is re-animated with superpowers.
The Banker – In the 1960s two African-American entrepreneurs hire a working-class white man to pretend to be the head of their business empire while they pose as a janitor and chauffeur.
Vivarium – Hoping to find the perfect place to live, a young couple looking for the perfect home find themselves trapped in a mysterious labyrinth-like neighborhood of identical houses.
Playing With Fire – A crew of rugged firefighters meet their match when attempting to rescue three rambunctious kids.
Dolittle – Dr. John Dolittle lives in solitude behind the high walls of his lush manor in 19th-century England. The physician who can talk to animals embarks on an adventure to find a legendary island with a young apprentice and a crew of strange pets.
Sonic The Hedgehog – After discovering a small, blue, fast hedgehog, a small-town police officer must help it defeat an evil genius who wants to do experiments on it.
Spies In Disguise – Super spy Lance Sterling and scientist Walter Beckett are almost exact opposite, however an unexpected turn, Walter and Lance suddenly have to rely on each other in a whole new way. And if this odd couple can’t learn to work as a team, the whole world is in peril. When the world’s best spy is turned into a pigeon, he must rely on his nerdy tech officer to save the world.
My Spy – Nine-year-old Sophie catches JJ, a hardened CIA operative, spying on her family during a routine surveillance operation. In exchange for not blowing his cover, JJ begrudgingly agrees to show the young girl how to become a spy
