The hand of God is the name given to the dubious goal scored by maradona in the 1986 word cup quarter final against england in an historic match in the FIFA word cup history.
Diego Maradona the Argentine legend, has been described by many as one of the best players of the football game, for his exploits in the 1986 world cup. Maradona held the record for the biggest signing for his world record transfer fee to Barcelona and from Barcelona to Napoli.
Early in the second half of the quarter-final game against England, both Maradona and Shilton the England goalkeeper, leapt for a loose ball in the penalty area.
Maradona was 20 inches shorter than Shelton, but somehow the ball trickled into the net, a goal which was seen by many to be scored with his hand.
But the incident was not spotted by the refrees and even after furious protests from the manager and the England players, the goal was awarded to Argentina.
The second goal was also superb as Maradona dribbled past five England players including the goal keeper to score a wonder goal which was also regarded as the Goal of the century. Argentina went on to win the game 2-1, courtesy of Maradona’s two goals.
With Maradona’s impact Argentina were crowned world champions and he was awarded best player of the tournament.
