See reasons why Burna Boy is truly African Giant and nobody’s mate, not even Wizkid or Davido.

If you are reading this post, it is either you are a fan of Burna and you just want to assert my claim, or not even a fan like that and you here to see why I would say something gibberish like that, comparing Burna to the 30billion gang crooner Davido or the forever starboy Wizkid or even possibly you just catching a cruise. Anyways if you are reading this piece, no yawa. It is for all.

The African giant Burna Boy’s real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu. The 28 years old crooner rose to fame in 2013 for his jam release “Like to party”, a hit song of his album L.I.F.E.

So why on earth would I say he’s nobody’s mate? I have been asking myself and Google that too.
So, let’s do some sneak peeks on his career and achievements lately.

If you are reading this with an open mind which I’m sure or hope you are doing, then you’d agree with me that 2019/2020 was the year Burna made so much musical and global impacts. It wouldn’t be close to a fallacy to even say he was the African best artiste of 2019/2020.

Burna Boy had an album released last year (2019) African Giant, an album that made him the reigning African King of music. African Giant being a major banger in the music hub got over 600million streams. Yes, read that again. 600 million streams. Practically, a population thrice of Nigeria streamed his songs. Not only that, he also had musical performances in over 200 cities around the globe. “Anybody” one of the hit songs which always gives me songasms made the cut as one of Barack Obama’s favorite songs. I didn’t say Ex Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan, said the no 1 black President of the world liked Burna’s songs so much he made it a favorite.

Being cocky sometimes could be a little overrated but when Burna does it, he does it with class.
In a tweet, he had said “I always knew I was and I am THE BEST. Everyone you think is the best know I’m best since Fela Kuti,”. This caused so many trolls against him but I bet he was unmoved. He is sure of what he does and as acclaimed, nobody paved the way for him in the industry.

So let’s talk 2019 mouth-watering awards. I’d try my best not to mention that he was nominated for Grammy. Being among few Nigerians who have been nominated. Anyways, remember Wizkid and Davido have never been. Just King Sunny Adé; Babatunde Olatunji; Femi and Seun Kuti and Burna

So let’s talk about the 2019 awards and recognitions. Burna Boy in July 2019 was announced as Apple Music Up Next artist.
I don’t wish to bore you but what can I do?

He had won in 2019BET Awards – Best International Act, Headies – Song of the Year, Best Collaboration. MTV Europe Music Awards – Best African Act, African Muzik Magazine Awards – Artiste of the Year, All Africa Music Awards – West African Male Artiste of the Year, Album of the Year, Sound city MVP Awards Festival – African Artiste of the Year, Best Male MVP.

Remember, I said I didn’t want to talk about his Grammy nomination right? Not because he lost the award to Angelique Kidjo (who gave credits to Burna) but because that will be too far fetched too for others.

Let’s talk briefly on global musical recognition too.

He had several collabos with international artiste among which are J Hus, Lily Allen, and Mabel. Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Wretch 32, IDK, Jorja Smith, Beyoncé, Mahalia Burkmar, etc.
Let also not forget he was the only featured guest on Beyonce’s album that had a solo song. That just class, nothing else.
He had interview sessions with Trevor Noah, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jimmy Fallon.

If you’ve not heard, himself alongside Rema another Nigeria music sensation were nominated for the Best International Act and Viewers’ Choice Best New International Act respectively.

Burna Boy is truly an African Giant and no doubts, he’s here to rule the game. As at the writing of this post, he is trending on Twitter for giving a massive sound to the remix of “Jerusalema” a song by Master KG. Odogwu of Music.
