OAU WINS AWARD AT INTERNATIONAL UK CONFERENCE

Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife won the best international contribution awards at the 2020 Political Studies Association, Early Career Network Conference. The conference was virtual which held from 13th to 27th of July,2020. One of the world most prominent political scientist Pippa Norris presented a keynote speech on the topic: ‘Pandemics, Populists and Skeptical Trust.’

The conference recorded a total attendance of 249 PhD students and early-career researchers from over 60 different institutions – including students from Brazil, Germany, India, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Portugal, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Over 90 video presentations were made in the course of the two weeks virtual conference where the attendees networked, presented their researches and engaged in an upskilling workshop.
Obafemi Awolowo University received the award due to “excellent presentations from Abdumalik Adesola Rufai, Boluwatife Ajibola Solomon, Damilola temitope Olorunshola and Mayowa Micheal Adeniji,” all of whom are graduates from the Department of Political Science in the University.
Mr. Abdulmalik Rufai presented on “Multi-level Governance, Policy-Making and Climate Change Responses; An Appraisal on Drivers and Challenges among Nigeria’s Sub-national Governments.” Boluwatife Ajibola presented on “Satirical contents, public opinion and decision making during Covid-19. Critical insights on Nigeria.” Damilola Temitope Olorunsola presented on “When availability does not translate to accessibility: Public policies, access to finance and the sustainability of M-SMEs in Osun State, Nigeria.” And lastly, Mayowa Micheal Adeniji presented on a research jointly conducted with a lecturer in the institution, Mr. T. I. Odeyemi, titled “Between Perceptions of Representative Democracy and the Willingness to engage Elected MPs. How are Nigeria’s Young Citizens Different?”
