The organised labour unions in the tertiary institutions in Ondo State have begun to seek spiritual assistance on the challenges facing the institutions particularly on the alleged non-payment of salaries.

It was gathered that the workers were allegedly being owed many months of salary arrears by the state government.

The labour unions comprise the Joint Action Committee of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, the Non -Academic Staff Union, the Nigeria Association of Academic Technologists and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics.

In a statement issued by the Secretary, JAC of the Ondo State Tertiary Institution, Peter Akindehinde, the unions asked the members to observe fasting and prayers on Today (Tuesday).

The statement partly read, “Arising from the meeting of the Joint Action Committee of Ondo owned tertiary institutions held at OAUSTECH on November 24 , 2020, members are informed that Tuesday, December 1, 2020 has been declared a day of fasting and prayer.

“This is not unconnected with unpaid salaries, deductions and other allowances. Members are to observe the fasting and prayer in line with their beliefs and gather at noon to offer prayers. We believe that the owner of the universe will intervene.”
