How To Set Up A Good Academic Foundation As A Fresher.

Majorly, most new intakes find it difficult to build a good academic foundation, simply because of poor orientation on the school protocols, distractions from non-academic activities and so on. Consequently, these areas have been the primary reasons for freshman’s faulty academic foundation. Hence, these issues can only be averted by taking the following procedures.

1. SET UP A STUDY PLAN

Primarily, as a freshman, you must set up a study plan and follow it ardently. Make sure you do that immediately, you begin lectures. For instance, you can create a study plan of studying two courses per day. Ensure you practice this dutifully to avoid overworking your brain during the test/examination period. In addition to the study plan, you can also meet with people that are academically oriented for group study or better understanding.

2. ATTEND LECTURES

As a freshman, being punctual and regular in class is very paramount. Most times, attendance is taken before/during/after lectures, and it’s essential for your academic status because they are being recorded. Timeliness enables you to get adequate information on the lecture for proper understanding. In terms of assignments, projects, tests, and examinations, exercising these two factors (punctuality and regularity) would go a long way in building your academic foundation.

3. CREATE A PROPER BALANCE

Most especially, take note of the activities you engage in, be it social, business, or religious activities. Make sure these activities do not occupy more of your time than your studies. Create a balance between your studies and other activities.

4. MAKE GOOD FRIENDS

This is very important, beware of the friends you roll with. Make good friends with guys that’ll influence you positively and even contribute to your academic excellence. In OAU, being a community with quite a lot of people you get to see everyday with different characters, you need to select your friends carefully. Take note of this.

Therefore, with adequate adherence to these practices, your academic foundation is solidly secured.
