If you walk up to any OAU Student to ask about competitive departments, everyone will mention their department. It is no new that no department on OAU campus is easy to enter.
All departments under the Faculty of Science are competitive, but I’ll be writing about the 5 most competitive departments under it.
BIOCHEMISTRY
OAU is one the few institutions to do general courses, they do not have a specific field for a B.sc degree. You combine all fields in the course. For this reason, many that have been unable to get any course under health sciences go for BCH, therefore making it have the highest cut-off in the whole faculty of science.
MICROBIOLOG
: Microbiology is said to be for wounded doctors and physiotherapists. After pursuing medicine and physiotherapy, they settle for Microbiology. It’s one of the closest courses to the college of health sciences, in the sense that all the course offered in part one is the same as what medicine and physiotherapy students do, it increases their chances to cross there. Microbiology is the second most competitive course in the whole faculty of science and it has the second-highest cut-off for the Faculty of science.

INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY
is one of the few universities to offer Industrial chemistry as a course. For this reason, many students apply for this course thereby making it competitive. To reduce the competition, it has the third-highest cut-off in the faculty of science.
MATHEMATICS
Mathematics is one of the most competitive and difficult courses in the Faculty of science. Because they do not accept many students, the competition to get the course is always high.
GEOLOGY
Geology students barely graduate after 4yrs. For this reason, they carefully choose their students which makes it survival of the fittest.
These are some of the competitive courses in the Faculty of science. For every student applying for any course in the Faculty of science, these are some of the things you’ve to look into to increase your chances of gaining admission.
