The University of Ibadan (UI) has been placed 1172nd in the world and the number one tertiary institution in Nigeria by the Centre for World University Rankings in its 2022 report, with an overall score of 69.3 points. The university is also the most highly ranked in Nigeria.
The University of Iowa (UI) was closely followed by the University of Nigeria (UNN), which was ranked 1775 globally and second in the country with 66.6 points. University of Lagos, with 66.0 points, is rated 1924 in the world and third in Nigeria, whereas Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with 66.0 points, is ranked 1941 in the world and fourth in Nigeria, and is the fourth top university in the country. For the fourth year in a row, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (96.7 points) and Stanford University (95.1 points) remained at the top of the world university rankings, respectively. The rating comes at a time when Nigerian public universities are mired in an interminable shutdown caused by a long-running industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the country (ASUU).
According to ASUU, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has a “lacklustre approach toward education,” as seen by its failure to fulfill the 2020FGN/ASUU Memorandum of Action, which was signed in December.
Harvard University, with a perfect score of 100 points, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (96.7 points), and Stanford University (95.1 points) retained their positions as the top three universities in the world for the fourth year in a row, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The rating comes at a time when Nigerian public universities are mired in an interminable shutdown caused by a long-running industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the country (ASUU).
