ASUU To Consider Suspending Strike For 3 Months As Students May Resume On Monday

Share

ASUU is considering calling off their strike for a grace period of three months, but they will have the option to start an extended strike if the federal government does not meet their demands.

This is coming shortly right after President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) had urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to halt its continuing strike on Thursday, citing the condition of students. It is also worthy to know that the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, alongside the Minister for Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, had hosted a meeting between the FG and the @ASUU NGN as well as all other registered Trade Unions in Nigerian universities in the wee hours of Thursday to discuss the suspension and coming to agreement of the Universities board and the Federal Government.

It should be worthy of remembrance that the labor organization, led by its President, Mr. Emmanuel Osodeke, began a statewide warning strike on February 14 with the intention of driving home its objectives and emphasizing that the action would continue until their demands were satisfied.

The lecturers are requesting that cash be allocated toward the Revitalization of Public Universities, Earned Academic Allowances, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS), and promotion arrears.

With all the aforementioned of President Buhari pleads and the meeting with the Union organization held in the wee hours of Thursday, there are high chances of suspending the strike as stated by the University Board.

In the event that this plan is approved, it is possible that students will be permitted to return to campus beginning on Monday. Stay right with us for more information
