First and foremost, Depression is a medical condition that shows its symptoms through mood and functionality. If you are depressed, you may feel sad, anxious, hopeless, or even worthless.

This is one of the factors that can make any student fall into depression. There can’t be a form of happiness in a student when his or her academic expectations aren’t met. This is another factor that causes depression among students. The thought of not having money to buy materials, buy foodstuffs when you see your other mates buy all these on a platter of gold is another reason for a student to fall into depression. Living under the cloud of money problems can leave anyone feeling down, hopeless, and struggling to concentrate or make decisions. Students who struggle with lack of money are more than twice as likely to suffer from depression.
4. Losing A Loved One
This is another major reason for anyone to fall into depression. The disheartening news that one’s parent, siblings, one of your family members or friends is dead is another cause of depression for an OAU student. The level of depression becomes heightened when the person sponsoring your schooling that dies. You know fully well that such a student’s life is doomed and might lead to drop out or struggling to do everything on their own. Depression can set in and the thought of coming suicide comes in. Profound emotional reactions may occur.
5. Lack Of Sleep
As silly as it may sound, this is another major cause of depression on OAU campus. If a students observes his inability to sleep which will certainly cause severe headache, it is enough to make such student fall into depression. It’s no surprise that not getting enough sleep—or enough good sleep—can lead to irritability. But it could also increase the risk of depression. Insomnia is a condition of not being able to sleep, it is one sleep disorder that has been linked to depression. Hypersomnia—feeling extremely sleepy during the day—and obstructive sleep apnea—when you involuntarily stop breathing for brief periods of time during sleep—have also been shown to be associated with depression. “If you don’t sleep, you don’t have time to replenish [brain cells], the brain stops functioning well, and one of the many factors that could lead to is depression.

Life threatening Illness has been another cause of depression among OAU students, as healthcenter and Teaching hospital becomes home for such student, thereby, lagging behind in every aspect of school.
This is another major reason that can make an OAU Student fall into depression. The stress of running from one lecture to another, the stress of going for over night back to back, the stress of queuing to get something. Everything in OAU is stressful. OAU is pregnant with chronic stress. With all these, depression will set in in as much you are over stressing yourself, no time for leisure, no time for yourself.The person will definitely fall into depression.
8. Tension From Home
This is another factor that can make an OAU student fall into depression. Putting pressure on the student to come out with certain grades and the student realizes he might not meet up to expectation affects the student psychologically and adversely which eventually lead into depression.
9. Change Of Environment
Change of Environment is another factor that can make an OAU student fall into depression. Getting used to the new environment, new system and new way of living, for a child that has never left the comfort of his parents might be hard and can have adverse effect on such child thereby leading in depression.
10. Oppression On Social Media
As social media has its advantage, so does it have its disadvantage, I can’t say the disadvantage is more that tue advantage actually. But, social media has affected the lives of so many y is another factor that can make an OAU Student slip into depression. The social media freaks amongst the students can kill themselves with depression when they are moved by what they see online and try to compare themselves with those people. They tend not to see the good side of their present position. All they want is the extravagant lifestyles and achievements of their mates that they see online.
Depression is a common condition that affects millions of students every year. Anyone can experience depression — even if there doesn’t seem to be a reason for it. Causes of depression include difficulties in life, etc.Depression is a severe condition and when left untreated, can lead to dire consequences e.g sucide.Technically, it is a cankerworm that eats up the happiness in students.
Without treatment, it can get worse and last longer. In severe cases, it lead to death and self-harm when such a student continues to feed on it.Going through trauma, grief, financial troubles, and failure trigger depression. While those triggers might be more well-known, there are others that are less obvious.
The good news is that depression is treatable. If you have symptoms of depression, talk to your healthcare provider or friends. The sooner you get help, the sooner you can feel better.
Talk it out and don’t wallow in the pool of depresssion for the betterment of your life.
