One of the distinct characteristics of a University is its library. Every University has its main library and well, some other libraries. Today we’ll get to know the Top 10 Universities with the largest libraries in Nigeria.

This list is based on the sitting capacity of the libraries

1. Covenant University Library

Covenant University Library also known as CLR (Centre for Learning Resources) is a computerized facility for all routine activities which gives staff and students access to the Web Public Access Catalogue (WPAC)

The gross floor area is designed as an elegant glass structure.

The library can accommodate 3000 readers and about 500 researching staff and postgraduate students.
Implying it has about 3500 sitting capacity.

2. Kwara State University Library

The current KWASU library was commissioned in July 2019. Named after the current President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari.

The library is a split building with a unique architectural structure. The library conveys 50,000 volumes and a 2000 sitting capacity and it is fully digitalized.

The library is very rich in architectural design and also one of the largest in West Africa.

3. Babcock University Library

The Lazz Memorial Library in Babcock University was donated by Alex Otti, former Managing Director of the now-defunct Diamond Bank on behalf of the commercial institution in honor of his late father, Pastor Lazarus Weze Otti.

The Lazz Otti Memorial Library (LOML) contains approximately 67,519 volumes spread across every discipline.

The exterior of the library is aesthetically appealing with the library hall well-segmented and fully air-conditioned.

4. Obafemi Awolowo library

The legendary Obafemi Awolowo University Library known as Hezekiah Oluwasanmi Library has been at its permanent site since its inception in 1989.

The beautiful library is a two-winged 4-story building that spans a total land area of 42,000 square feet.

It was built to accommodate 250,000 volumes of books and 2500 readers at the same time, with the availability of internet access to books and journals.

5. Ahmadu Bello University Library

The Ahmadu Bello University Library also called Kashim Ibrahim Library (KIL) located on the main campus has an area of 1,582m with a study and seat space for 2000 and a capacity for 500,000 volumes.

The library is said to have such an appealing size and grandeur.

6. Landmark University Library

The Landmark University Library is known as the Centre for Learning Resources (CLR).
The Library is a two storey glass edifice
equipped with state-of-the-art provisions.
The library has a seating capacity of 1,700.

7. University of Ibadan Library

The University of Ibadan Library also called The Kenneth Dike Library contains over 700,000 volumes and a seating capacity of 1,250.

The library is open to students, staff, and alumni of the university.

8. The University of Lagos Library

The University of Lagos Library has a capacity volume of 100 thousand and a seating capacity of 1000.
It is located at the heart of the campus.

The library offers access to extensive electronic resources. The library’s collections can be accessed through the OPAC system with workstations located within the library.

9. University of Ilorin Library

The University of Ilorin Library system consists of three sections; The main library, college library, and law library.

The main library is located at the school’s permanent site, the law library at the university’s main campus, and the college library is at the mini campus of the College of Health.

The University of Ilorin library has a seating capacity of above 1000.

10. Nnamdi Azikwe University Library

The Nnamdi Azikwe Library is located in the University of Nigeria and is named after the first president of Nigeria.

It is the second oldest library in Nigeria. It has a seating capacity of 220 readers.
Presently the library system has about 735,157 volumes of books and about 99,760 bound volumes of journals.
