The FIFA world cup is one of the most anticipated football tournaments and is usually played every four(4) years. The world cup has 21 editions and only eight teams have won the world cup including; Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Italy, Uruguay, France, England, and Spain. A total of 79 nations have appeared in the world cup.

The second edition of the FIFA world cup was hosted by Italy and they were only the second team to host and win the competition beating Czech 2-1.
1938 – Italy
Italy won the third edition of the tournament two times consecutively after beating Hungary 4-2. This edition was hosted by France.

1950 – Uruguay
This edition of the world cup was hosted by Brazil and won by Uruguay after beating the host nation 2-1. The final match holds the record for the most-attended football game ever with 173,850 spectators.
1954 – Germany
This edition of the world cup was hosted by Switzerland. Germany won the cup after beating Hungary 3-2 in the finals.
1958 – Brazil
This edition of the world cup was won by Brazil and hosted by Sweden. Brazil beat host nation 5-2 to claim the title.
1962 – Brazil
This edition of the world cup was hosted by Chile and won by Brazil. Brazil winning this edition made it their second consecutive win. Brazil beat Czech 2-1 in the finals to win the cup.
1966 – England
This edition of the World cup was hosted by England and they were also the winners of the cup beating Germany 4-2.
1970 – Brazil
This edition of the world cup was hosted by Mexico and won by Brazil after beating Italy in the finals 4-1.
1974 – Germany
This edition of the world cup was hosted and won by Germany after beating Netherlands 2-1.

1978 – Argentina
This edition of the world cup was hosted and won by Argentina after beating Netherlands in the Final 3-1.
1982 – Italy
This edition of the world cup was hosted by Spain. Italy won the world cup for the third time in their history beating Germany in the finals 3-1.
1986 – Argentina
This edition of the world cup was hosted by Mexico and won by Argentina after beating Germany 3-2.

This edition of the world cup was hosted and won by France after beating Brazil 3-0 in the finals.

2006 – Italy
This edition of the world cup was hosted by Germany. This was only the second world cup finals which went on to a penalty shoot-out. Italy beat France 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at full-time.
2010 – Spain
This edition of the world cup was the first world cup to be hosted by an African nation, South Africa. Spain won the cup beating Netherlands in the finals 1-0.
