Ademola Adeleke has been reinstated as the governor of Osun state by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja. The three-member panel of justices, which delivered the judgment on Friday, held that the election tribunal had erred in ruling that the All Progressives Congress and Gboyega Oyetola had proven their allegation of over-voting. The panel of judges stated that Adeleke was the validly elected governor of the state. In January, the Osun governorship election tribunal had found that Oyetola had been able to demonstrate over-voting in some of the polling units.
Consequently, the majority judgment of the tribunal ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Adeleke and issue a fresh one to Oyetola as the duly elected governor of Osun.
Dissatisfied with the ruling, Adeleke appealed the judgment at the court of appeal.
