The Presidency on Monday stated that the 43 farmers that were killed by Boko Haram on Saturday did not have military clearance to be on the rice farms when the attack happened.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this in an interview with the BBC on Monday.

He said while not blaming the victims for the incident, the truth must be said.
Shehu said, “The government is sad that this tragic incident has happened. 43 or thereabout of innocent farm workers, most of them had their throats slit by a heartless band of terrorists. People need to know what it is like in the Lake Chad Basin area.
“Much of those areas have been liberated from Boko Haram terrorists but there are a number of spaces that have not been cleared for the return of villagers who have been displaced. So, ideally, all of these places ought to pass the test of military clearances before farmers or settlers resume activities on those fields.”

When asked if he was not blaming the farmers for going to the area, Shehu responded, “Not exactly but the truth has to be said. Was there any clearance by the military which is in total control of those areas? Did anybody ask to resume activity? I have been told by the military leaders that they had not been so advised and certainly, therefore, it was a window that the terrorists exploited.”

The President’s spokesman said terrorists had planted land mines in several places in Borno State and nobody ought to go to these places until the military has cleared such places.

He added, “The military is not present in every inch of space in that area. Even if the people are willing to go back, a lot of those areas have been mined and mine clearance needs to be carried out and those areas must be cast as being ok for human habitation or agricultural activity.”

5 RED FLAGS EVERY LADY SHOULD WATCH OUT FOR IN A GUY

Ladies keep asking the question – what should I watch out for in a guy? It is a very serious question that is mostly taken with levity, as the female gender pay little or no attention to the bad signals a guy showcases.
However, there is nothing like a perfect guy. Some ladies will remain single till Jesus comes, waiting for Mr. Right. Even though, there is no such thing as a perfect guy, there are things or attitudes your man should not possess. These attitudes show that he is either not into you or you are not the Main Chick.

Below are the 5 things you should watch out for in a guy:

1. PRIVATE RELATIONSHIP : Never allow a guy to fool you with “I’m a private person” talks. How can you be in a relationship with a guy and you don’t know his friends (I mean the close ones not his drinking squad), no one in his family knows you as his babe. O wrong nau! If a guy is really into you, the important people in his life will be aware of your existence in his life. Don’t be fooled!

2. ALWAYS AT THE RECEIVING END : If you are with a guy that always collects from you on a daily basis, my sister JAPA! I know some guys are broke, however, if a guy loves you, no matter how poor his pocket is, he will always strive to gift you things once in a while. Shine your eyes well and make sure you are no one’s ATM.

3. BUSY : “Can you call me back? I’m busy right now”, “Hey babe, I can’t make it for our dinner, something came up”, “Let me call you back when I’m done, there’s a lot on my mind right now….”, If a guy gives these excuses whenever you are to meet, or he is always too busy for you , just know he is breaking up with you stylishly. When a guy loves you, he’s always drawn to you and can never be too busy to make time for you.

4. PHYSICAL HARASSMENT : I’ve heard ladies lying they had an accident , whereas they were beaten by their so-called boyfriends. Firstly, no sane guy will raise his hands to beat a lady. Secondly, you offending him does not warranty a beating from him. In fact, under no circumstances should a guy beat you. And don’t be fooled with sentences like- “I was furious, you know I can’t bear seeing you with some guy”, “I’ve told you on several occasions not to see those girls” etc. A guy that loves you will never beat you.

5. EVERYTIME SEX : If your guy only calls you when he is horny, just know you are his booty call. There should be times you guys will discuss not just your present but also your future. But if all you do is sex whenever you are with him, my dear JAPA! He is just using you to ease his sexual urge.

Guys can be very cunning and manipulative at times, most of them are wolf in a sheep clothing. I believe these 5 red flags will help you know if he truly loves you or his weyrey dey disguise.

Several Nigerians on Twitter have expressed dissatisfaction over the oath of secrecy administered on members of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The oath of secrecy administered on panel members reads in part,

I solemnly swear/affirm that I will not directly or indirectly communicate or reveal any matter to any person which shall be brought under my consideration or shall come to my knowledge in the discharge of my official duties, except as may be required for the discharge of my official duties or as may be officially permitted by the governor. So help me God/Allah.”

The panel, which is to investigate the shooting of unarmed protesters at the Lekki toll plaza on October 20, 2020, is expected to begin sitting today.
The panel is also to probe alleged extrajudicial killings perpetrated by operatives of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the police.

Popular social media influencer, Dr. Harvey Olufunmilayo, said the oath of secrecy was not a good sign.
If Lagos asked members of the panel to sign an oath of secrecy, just know there is no depth these people will not sink into to cover the truth. If members of the Lagos judicial panel of inquiry are truly made to sign an oath of secrecy, now is the time to end that scam.
“These panels are a public inquiry into a matter of public interest about public crimes and atrocities committed by the police. Televise all panel sessions,” he wrote.

If you haven’t read the reason why President Muhammadu Buhari decided to keep numb on Lekki massacre then you should read this : Why I don’t want to speak on Lekki Toll-gate incident…

Another influencer, Dr. Dipo Awojide, said the state government should try to build trust among the youths and the oath of secrecy could undermine this.
There is absolutely no need for folks joining the panel in Lagos State to swear an oath of secrecy. It just makes everything look suspect from the get-go. Trust level is currently at the lowest level. Lagos State Government should do everything to build trust,” Awojide tweeted.

Adetutu Balogun also questioned the rationale behind the oath of secrecy, saying, “Why are independent judicial panel members swearing an oath of secrecy to Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a public hearing?”

A lawyer, Festus Ogun, said on Twitter that the reference to the governor in the oath was also worrisome.
Ogun said the oath of secrecy was defective and at variance with Section 38(4) of the 1999 Constitution.
Again, this oath of secrecy is legally defective. First, the idea of secrecy is occult. Section 38(4) of the 1999 Constitution frowns at ‘secret societies’.
“Oath of confidentiality would be better. Second, oaths are to be sworn before a commissioner of oaths, not the governor,” the lawyer maintained.
