The Chief of Staff to Godwin Obaseki, the Edo State Governor, Taiwo Akerele has resigned his appointment.
It was gathered that Akerele, an indigene of Igarra in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, accused Obaseki of sidelining him.
His Principal who is still at loggerheads with his benefactor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), is yet to respond on the issue.
Akerele, who was appointed on November 14, 2016, in his resignation dated April 25, 2020, is quoted:
“ My decision to exit the government is based on administrative and governance grounds.
Do you have a groundbreaking story you would like us to publish? Please reach us through [email protected]
I am solidly with His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, in his quest to transform Edo State. His mission and vision resonate with mine.
This is all I have to say, I will like to be given opportunity to go private as I part ways administratively with the government, based on principles.
I thank His Excellency for the opportunity given to me to serve in this capacity and also thanks to His Royal Majesty, Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, for his immense leadership and support during the period I served in this capacity. May his reign be long and peaceful. Amen ”
A month ago, The former Chief of Staff reiterated his support for the incumbent Governor amidst the crisis rocking the state between Obaseki and Oshiomhole and was quoted
“Adams Oshiomhole is our man anytime any day and he is best of friends with Godwin Obaseki what happened was a normal political disagreement which is settle-able.
Every other issue is subsumed under this sub-issue and in any case no matter how we war, dialogue, and peaceful settlement remain the ultimate.
I also want to use this medium to call on our colleagues who disagree with him to understand and forget whatever may have happened in the past. He is a man of peace and a pro-development economist, cum politician”.
But his resignation today comes as a shock and it was gathered that it is connected with the lingering crisis between the Governor and the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
